Hi, How Are You?

Really, how are you doing Mentor?  We ask because we want to make sure you are tuning in and taking good care of yourself!  Self-care can sometimes seem like it is too overwhelming and time consuming, or perhaps it simply feels self-indulgent? Self-care is actually very important because like the old adage says, “you can’t pour from an empty cup”, so take care of yourself first!

In Central Texas, we are fortunate to have an abundance of quality organizations to call upon in times of need for ourselves, loved ones, and our community.  The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is one such organization.  NAMI is dedicated to changing the way our community addresses mental health.  Their goal is to promote mental wellness through innovative education, support and advocacy programs.  Karen Ranus, Executive Director, tirelessly works to promote NAMI’s mission and encourage people to talk about mental health.  She states that “too many people still fail to recognize mental health as the HEALTH issue it is.”  Focusing on educating the whole community allows for everyone to have a better understanding of mental health and the value of early intervention and treatment.

Having an awareness of what increases stress in our lives and knowing when to “de-stress” using healthy strategies is a wonderful life lesson for ourselves and one you can share with your mentee.  Because caring for our physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing has a positive effect on our mental health!

To learn easy strategies you and your mentee can incorporate into your self-care, please join us for our rescheduled training called Managing Stress, Wednesday, April 7th, 2021.  Check your inbox to RSVP today!
